Both workers suffered falls at a Toronto construction site nearly a decade ago
It took nearly a decade, but a coroner has now set the date for the joint inquest into the deaths of two workers who suffered from falls at a construction site in Toronto in 2015.
Starting at 10 a.m. on Feb. 26, 2024, an inquest will hear details surrounding the deaths of Luigi Cudini and Shane Jennings who both died on March 27, 2015.
The 54-year-old Cudini and the 37-year-old Jennings died from injuries sustained due to falls from a collapsed scaffolding while working at a condo construction.
An inquest into their deaths is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
Cudini and Jennings were bricklayers at the construction project in the Oakmount Rd. and Bloor St. W. area, west of Keele St., according to a 2015 report from the Toronto Sun.
Cudini became a grandfather of a girl born a few weeks prior to his death from the fall, according to the report. He had two children and a stepson, according to the report.
Meanwhile, Jennings left behind a wife and daughter, according to a separate report from Durham Radio News.
The inquest is expected to last six days and hear from 10 witnesses. It will examine the circumstances surrounding the workers’ deaths.
The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.
Dr. MaryBeth Bourne will be the presiding officer. Kate Forget and Grace Alcaide Janicas will be inquest counsel.
